sweater spunk

Fall is here, friends. And so are oversized sweaters. My favorite fall knit pick (hah.) is actually from last winter. This sweater, from H&M's 2013 Paris Collection, was bought a year ago but,
thanks to the LA heat, never actually worn. So, as I was rummaging through my closet this morning, I stumbled across this beauty and immediately threw it on. *cue light parting through clouds and choir music* It is magnificent!
Paired with slip-ons and a head wrap, it creates the ideal fall balancing act.

Happy Sunday!

BTS: Fall Shoe Closet

Fall and Los Angeles are not two words people often mentally associate. In fact, a Los Angeles Autumn does not hold true to the word in any way. Rather, for the most part the leaves stay on trees and festive Thanksgiving hued leaf piles are thing left for holiday movies. Not to mention, the month of September usually idles around a scorching 85 degrees. That being said, there will certainly be no knee high boots to be seen for a good month or two, leaving transition pieces the only safe bet.

Now, I'm most definitely not a "buy a new wardrobe every season" type of gal, but it's always helpful to reserve a few pieces for those awkward transition periods. (You know what I'm talking about *cough cough* February and September) So, here are the shoes I have selected to wear this coming fall. Simple, chic silhouettes and probably too much black, but they're neither too summery nor too warm.

To Turban or Not to Turban?

Hey, bandits!

I hope you all have had a spectacular summer! Unfortunately, the time has come for us to return to the real world. And by real world, I mean the dreaded application process. (Just as forewarning, my blog posts most likely will be a bit sporadic in the coming weeks.)But, before personal statements are due, and interviews begin, there's still enough time to grab your bedazzled birkenstocks and velvet turbans for a sunny afternoon.
I've always been rather hesitant about jumping on the turban boat and, if I'm being honest with you, I definitely did not think I could ever- EVER- pull off a turban.  It wasn't until I saw a beautiful woman rocking the most wonderful black turban while at Balthazar NY that I decided to join the club. Consider me an avid fan. Paired with fitted jeans and chunky statement shoes, an Art Deco look is given the perfect modern twist.

Happy Monday!

farm girl by the beach

Can you see that? It's my inner dork about to be completely and unabashedly released. (*Cue Oprah voice*)
"I'm weeaaring overalllls!"
The funny thing, is that these "shortalls" were actually the overalls that my mom wore throughout the 1990's. So, I mean I guess you could say they're an oldie, but a goodie. One thing I love about overalls, (despite being overall, a very cute look *ba-dum dum!*) is that you literally can wear whatever you want and just throw a pair of overalls on top. While I haven't yet had a chance to find a pair I love, full length pant overalls are a fabulous look. My advice? Pick a slightly boyfriend-esque style to wear over a basic white tee or crop top with tan sandals or heels.

Happy Friday, bandits!

shadows & stars

It's safe to say that we've all planned outfits that revolve around a character or theme at some point in our lives. For example, perhaps your outfit for that art show is reminiscent of the 90's รก la Rachel from Friends. Or, maybe you decide to kick it up a notch and channel Audrey Hepburn in a pair of tailored trousers and a turtleneck. Whatever it may be, sometimes it's fun to bring in a bit of an outside influence into your own wardrobe.

That being said, pairing this starry vintage sheath with boat shoes makes me associate this outfit with the Hamptons. I'm not sure why,(in fact I have never even been there) however, for some reason this outfit feels like the perfect thing to wear for a stroll through the downtown area. Maybe I've just watched one too many episodes of Gossip Girl...

lemonade

Summer and citrus prints? Oh yes. There's nothing like getting into the summer spirit like dressing like you just robbed a Hawaiian shirt store! To achieve this look, I paired a cropped, ribbed tank with a lemon print skort and turquoise jewelled choker. To top it all off? Black faux leather sandals and my favorite layered H&M rings.
Personally, I will always opt for shorts over a skirt. While skirts are definitely stunning, I've just come to accept that I'm secretly a 12 year old boy and sitting like a lady and not running around are impossible for me. So, skorts and I are a match made in heaven. Thankfully, the trends have followed accordingly and now skorts come in a plethora of styles and prints (hallelujah!), not just athletic wear.

summer somethings

Ah, finally...Summer is here! We've survived the grueling academic year and you have gone without a blog post for three whole months (sorry, sorry!). But anywho, that is done and well and now we can bask in the summer sun. Before the LA heat wave hits later this summer (and we drown in sweat and sunscreen), I'm trying to maximize the time I have to wear heavier clothing and closed toe shoes. What I love about this outfit, is that it's not too formal, but at the same time, it's still formal enough for a dinner or get-together with friends. Paired with a casual flared skirt and smoking flats it's the perfect summer transition outfit.

simple simple

Be it a t-shirt and jeans or a dress and flats, it's always nice to tone it down occasionally. My basic fringed top (which is somewhat  reminiscent of a dead muppet) paired with basic black denim, boots, and a thick leather jacket that I raided from my mother's closet did that just perfectly today. Seriously, there is nothing more comfortable than throwing on a pair of jeans and boots.

LA in the rain

Usually when it rains in LA, the entire city lets out one huge collective shriek before it plummets into Hunter Boot/Lululemon hysteria. Being Californians, dressing for weather that's not a sunny 70-some degrees is more than a challenge. That being said, there are still ways to look presentable whilst being doused in water. In the photos above, I have styled my beautiful friend Amanda in a shearling coat, wellies, and basics. For those questioning my choice of shearling, do not fret, it merely drizzles at most in the South Bay(Hallelujah).

To my fellow South Bay dwellers, have a warm and dry weekend!
To my other readers, I commend your weather resilience.

good things come in j.crew packages

Just got these amazing earrings and necklace from J. Crew! They're a bit costume jewelry-ish (which I like) so pairing them with more understated clothing is, in my opinion, definitely the way to go.
