When Melrose meets Fairfax

Every weekend on the corner of Fairfax and Melrose, vendors from across the greater LA area set up shop in the parking lot of Fairfax High School. This, is the Fairfax Flea Market. Complete with the usual eclectic mix of high and low brand used clothing (and of course the ever so conspicuous mink coat or two), the Fairfax Market also brings together skilled artisans.Virtually a maze of pop-up tents, the aisles are lined with ornately embellished picture frames, industrial light-bulb sculptures, vintage records, cameras, typewriters, and leather bags. Suffice to say it's incredibly easy to lose track of time.
The cherry on top of it all?
The prices are unbeatable.

cheers to fall

What do you think of when the word fall pops in your head?
Sweaters? Elections? Pumpkin spiced lattes? Holidays? Turkey? Overly boisterous relatives? parties?
For the sake of this post, we're just going to go with the latter. (so poll-checking-sweater-wearing-turkey-eaters bear with me here.)
It's always a challenge selecting the perfect outfit for a night out, especially when you run the risk of getting hypothermia on a chilly fall night. Personally, I love layering jackets(in this case, a camel prepschool blazer) over a polished dress or skirt combo. A pattern underneath gives the entire outfit a little more attitude while satin heels boost formality.

cheers!

vampire weekend part II

My oh so attractive pre-show selfie

Part two of my two post concert extravaganza! As you may know, Vampire Weekend and Beirut played the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday. The result of this pairing was nothing less than perfect. Usually, I'm not the biggest fan of the Bowl as a venue in general, but for some reason everything was absolutely spot on. Above are some photos from my box as well as one from the after party. Ezra, CT, Rostam, and Baio are all such amazing people, I am so grateful to have met them!
On a side note, there was a delay in my instagram posts due to poor reception at the venue, but all videos are up now so go take a look @thebrunettebandit!

Here's to their next show.

hello, autumn

Sweater weather is (finally) here! I am so utterly ecstatic that fall has come. Hello pumpkin spice lattes, over-sized sweaters, and a seasonal excuse for not shaving our legs! These are a few of my fall finds from yesterday. (yes, I know espadrilles are for summer but California winters are, well, summer)

Here's to fuzzy socks and spiced everything.

1950 Called...

.... It wants its tablecloth back.

Shooting in this gingham-esque Topshop dress was such a trip. Definitely a throwback to my childhood uniform of daisy print frocks circa 2003ish. But I mean, c'mon who wouldn't love such a perfect floral dress?
Recently I've been in such a retro phase. Yesterday, for example, I paid homage to Rachel and Monica circa 1998(Friends, get with the program, kid) in a pair of Lucky Brand overall shorts and today it's a dress reminiscent of my Barbie days. Throwing it back to the good old days like it's nobody's business.

a lil' red

I was recently part of a photography series depicting modern day princesses and if you haven't already caught on I was little red riding hood. Personally, I love the whole concept. It's super kitschy and it was an added bonus is that I happened to have a perfect pair of riding boots. I have to say, it feels great to be back to blogging after a month hiatus. Seriously, that was a needed break, but I miss the blogosphere far too much.

Happy September,

lazy days

As summer nears its final weeks I find myself trying to capitalize on every drop of summer freedom I can get. That means breaking out all my sun dresses and heading outdoors for some adventuring. This is one of my all time favorite dresses from Free People. I simply adore the timeless cut and floral and dot pattern. To get a little bit of a Western look I paired it with my favorite pair of lace-ups.
Happy Summer!

Spotlight: Pouches

It's always tough trying to settle on the perfect bag for the day and whether or not you are the lucky owner of this season's It Bag, it's always a relief when a simple, blank canvas of a bag springs forth from the depths of the design houses. It's especially nice when said bag comes in a variety of colors, prints, and textures. Conveniently, this season Comme de Garcon has created a plethora of zippered pouches. They're perfect transitional pieces for any wardrobe and are all under $200.

I haven't had a chance to purchase one myself, but I did find a lovely substitute in this Tory Burch wristlet!

oh, marc!

I hate to say it, but the functionality of deathly high heels is often questionable. Now, that's not saying I don't have a weak spot for a great pair of heels, but sometimes your feet just need a break! The problem is that a lot of people struggle with finding shoes that maintain the chic factor while losing the heel. For that reason, I am so excited about owning these Marc Jacob mini pumps! Comfy and cute, seriously, it doesn't get better than that.

brush it off

I had such a blast shooting this outfit with my friend, A, yesterday. I'm definitely indulging my not so secret obsession with retro clothing. Sometimes all you need is a good pair of disco pants and a peasant top. Bowl hats don't hurt either. Personally, I'm, not really one for chiffon, but somehow this shirt has caught my fancy. You know what they say, there's a first time for everything.

Photo Diaries: Paris 2013

I had an absolutely incredible trip to the City of Lights this summer. I positively adore Paris and cannot wait to go back. The culture in France is something you certainly won't find anywhere else. The subtle elegance of the attire, the overwhelmingly succulent aroma of working creperies, the vivacious performances of musicians on the metro- oh! oh! oh! Rather simple things, and yet, it's the simple things that make Paris so desirable. It's hard not to be envious of the effortless poise Parisian life has!

Here's to many more overseas ventures!
